What are aeroponics or NFT ?

The NFT system (Nutrient Film Technique) is an aeroponic watering system that continually or intermittently recirculates a thin layer of nutrient solution through the roots by means of channels.

The plants are placed in the openings of the channels, inside special baskets with a support medium. While the nutrient solution is stored in a container and recirculated with a pump.

The roots are in semi-permanent contact with the nutrient solution. This enhances the development of the plant.

Benefits of the NFT system

  • Over 90% savings on nutrient solution and water.

  • Harvest cycles are speeded up by more than 50%. You can get between 9 and 10 annual lettuce harvest cycles. Whereas with a drip irrigation system, you get between 3 and 4 harvests.

  • Labour savings, as the plants are very easy to harvest.

  • Maximum use of space. The roots receive the nutrient solution directly and under optimal conditions, so they do not need to grow in search of water. In addition, the crossover inside the pipe adds extra load-bearing capacity to the system.

  • Simple installation. Fewer pumps and no clogging.

  • Eliminates soil sterilisation.
