NOVAGRIC Projects
Irrigated Agriculture Project in the Desert
Growing in the desert, and in a sustainable way is not only possible, but is one of the clearest options of sustainable agriculture:
- Soils become more fertile
- Erosion is reduced
- The effects of global warming are mitigated
- From a social and economic point of view, desert agricultural practices promote food development and income.
Deserts, despite being places that seem totally exposed to agricultural infertility, can turn into cultivable lands for many plant species with efficient use of resources.
In Novagric we know how to do it, so we have carried out one of the largest irrigation facilities located in the middle of the Sahara Desert, an area where the temperature varies from 5 to 45ºC, the frequency of rains is 1% and the humidity is typical of a desert climate.
The installed project has a cultivation area divided into 33 sectors for the cultivation of cotton and vegetables and localised drip irrigation systems, as this is the system with the best irrigation uniformity and efficiency.
