NOVAGRIC Projects
Irrigation project for nuts crops in Spain
In recent years walnut tree crops volume has increased more than 35% in Spain. According to the data provided by the Agriculture Ministry, Spain has about 14,000 hectares of walnut tree crops area, which means an average of 1,500 kilos of grain per hectare. These numbers show an economic value of above 50 million euros, with a walnut grain average price that is close to 2.5 euros per kilo.
Walnut has an attractive investment value due to these data, despite the high water needs of this crop that does not tolerate soils that tend to become waterlogged, nor soils that are too calcareous, nor saline conditions.
The success of its good development will depend on an optimal irrigation management. For this purpose, Novagric has carried out a technical feasibility preliminary analysis, an optimal project design and an adequate execution. All this so that the grower can perform a correct irrigation application and fertilization, with suitable planting frames for his farm, minimizing risks in decision making and increasing profitability.
