NOVAGRIC Projects
Irrigation and Damming for Woody Crops
Novagric has carried out an irrigation design and installation project for outdoor woody crop production in Spain.
The objective of this project was to design a manageable irrigation system for optimal use of water resources and to achieve high productivity with the caliber and quality demanded by the market.
CHALLENGE
The farm had large slopes where it was necessary to adapt the design so that the water could arrive uniformly, also making several overflows for both the Walnut and Almond trees.
Curiosities of the crop:
Almond and walnut are high-value crops that have been cultivated in the Mediterranean basin for hundreds of years but whose growth margin is high.
Although for decades most walnut trees were rainfed, farmers discovered that this tree responds quite well to the application of irrigation, which aids in walnut growth and nut production.
