NOVAGRIC Projects
Drip Irrigation for Walnut and Almond Crops
Novagric has carried out an irrigation design and installation project for the production of walnut and almond trees outdoors in Extremadura.
Both almond and walnut are high-value crops that have been cultivated in the Mediterranean basin for hundreds of years and have a high growth margin. However, in Spain only 30% of the walnuts produced are consumed.
Thus, throughout the country, this type of plantation occupies some 13,000 hectares, although only 8,000 hectares are in production. This is because they require a somewhat high initial investment.
But a good design of the irrigation system facilitates its amortization, since it optimizes the use of water resources and achieves high productivity with the caliber and quality demanded by the market.
