Nurserymen reduce organic pistachio cycle to 7 months with greenhouse automation technologies

In the heart of Jumilla (Murcia), Agro Vivero del Mediterráneo stands out as a pioneer in sustainable and efficient pistachio cultivation.

Managed by Carmen and Juan Diego, this nursery is distinguished by its technological approach to advance the planting cycle and guarantee the production of high quality fruit.

These two young nurserymen were used to working with open field cultivation and faced the challenge of growing 17,000 loquat plants for the first time under a technological greenhouse. Now, with the loquat plant out of the greenhouse, they have started planting the next crop: pistachio.

Pistachio: A Booming Crop in Spain

Pistachio cultivation has experienced significant growth in Spain in recent years, thanks to its profitability and viability as an alternative to other traditional crops.

In their quest to optimize pistachio cultivation, Carmen and Juan Diego opted for the greenhouse technology developed by Novagric on a farm with 140 hectares for the different stages required by the plant.

Pistachio is a late crop to come into production and its final investment is long term. Previously it took a year to grow a rootstock, now with the greenhouse they are able to advance the plant up to 7 months, ensuring absolute control over the growing environment of the plants.

Committed to sustainability, this Agro Vivero has adopted environmentally friendly practices in all its operations. From biological pest control to chemical elimination, the nursery strives to produce 100% organic plants, offering an environmentally friendly alternative.
